Individual, Couples, and Family Sessions

I offer individual therapy primarily, though I may also suggest family sessions or couples’ sessions at times.  As a licensed clinical social worker, I was trained in systems theory.  In part, that means we are individuals, but we are also interdependent in the system of our family.  What impacts one person in the family usually impacts others.  If it seems useful, productive, and safe for you as a client, I may suggest a family or couples’ session on occasion.

Therapy

The main thing I bring to therapy is myself and my experience. As strange as it might sound, I think therapy can be fun.  Working in home hospice and dealing every day with death and grief, I was amazed how life goes on.  This means that even in our pain we have moments of light, humor, and warm connection to others.  I strive to model this and make room for it in my practice.  From an academic point of view, I am influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Logotherapy (Viktor Frankl’s model), and other models as well.

I have a wide range of experience in spiritual issues related to death, dying, and loss.  I do NOT advocate at certain religious tradition, but am passionate about the relationship of loss to your religious or spiritual background and meaning-making in general.  I work with clients of every religious or non-religious background.

Speaking

In addition to my TEDx talk, I have given talks to professional groups and community groups on topics such as grief, creativity and grief, boundaries, and self-care. Fees for speaking are determined per engagement.
